On Saturday, May 3rd, a category three cyclone (hurricane) struck the coast of western Burma. Several villages have been completely wiped out, while thousands are displaced without shelter, food, or clean water. The death toll may be up to 10,000, making Cyclone Nargis the world's deadliest storm since India's 1999 cyclone.
SEAIA will be working with UNC's Extended Disaster Relief to create a collaborative effort for Cyclone Nargis relief. We will keep you updated on how you can help and get involved via email and our website (www.unc.edu/seaia). Please continue to check the news, pass along the info to others and keep the Burmese people in your thoughts.
