OSSA's executive cabinet is organized into committees, each headed by at
least one chairperson. These committees operate independently to work toward their long-term
and short-term objectives, meeting collaboratively with the executive cabinet on a weekly basis.
Political Committee
Alison Savignano (Brockton, MA)
OSSA's Political Committee focuses on publiicizing issues pertaining to Out-of-State students
like tuition and community involvement. Out primary goals are to advocate predictable and
reasonable increases in tuition for Out-of-State students and to suggest other methods of
income in place of sizable increases.
Over the 2007-2008 School Year, the Political Committee has:
- staged the 3rd successful tuition letter writing campaign to Chancellor Moeser
- developed and promoted a tuition petition for fair and predictable increases (still available on OSSA website)
- staged OSSA's 3rd Student Body President Debate Forum
Good Deeds & Philanthropy
Jamie Sebaaly (Lancaster, NY)
The Good Deeds Committee plans service events for members of OSSA so that we can give back
to the local community and have fun getting to know other out-of-staters at the same time.
During the fall 2005 semester, we had many successful community service events. We gardened
in the arboretum, performed home/garden repairs for clients of a Helping Hand, and organized
students to donate meals to the homeless of Franklin Street, as well as keeping members
informed of other volunteer opportunities at UNC.
Student Services
Erin McGee (Marietta, GA)
The services committee is designated to take care of whatever needs out-of-state students feel
like they have while navigating through college. Some specific ideas and projects we've come
up with are shuttles to grocery stores or Target, compiling a OSSA Survival Guide that informs
students new to the Chapel Hill area about local restaurants, late night destinations and slang,
and helping OSSAers store their stuff over the summer. If you have any suggestions for services
that we can provide for out-of-state students, let us know!
