Join a committee

Trips and Training Committee: This committee is in charge of researching, planning and implementing hands-on aid to areas affected by disaster. The committee is responsible for organizing all aspects of the trips EDR plans to take each year. These aspects include compiling a list of trip participants, making reservations with our destination's partner organization, working with van rental companies to make affordable reservations, and setting a trip participant fee based upon the above expenses. This committee is also responsible for determining the selection process for future trip leaders, for training new trip leaders, and for conducting an intensive training session for all trip participants prior to departure.

Contact committee leader Ruchita Pillai (ruchita [at] email [dot] unc [dot] edu) for more information.

Events Planning Committee: The The Events Planning Committee will work to ensure that, over the course of the semester, Extended Disaster Relief maintains a prominent role on campus and continues to serve the Gulf Coast through special events and fundraising efforts that benefit Gulf Coast communities. We are responsible for all aspects of fundraising and will help the Education/Advocacy Committee (see below) with logistics for educational events. We hope to plan several events throughout the semester that will both educate and engage participants in issues surrounding the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. From a fundraising perspective, we would like to diversify our fundraising tactics by soliciting partnerships from businesses and other organizations to aid in the cost of work relief trips in addition to sponsoring campus events.

Contact committee leader Clay Vickers (vickers621@email.unc.edu) for more information.
